Greek Independence Day
To commemorate the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, our Greek South Africans created a 1500 sqm flag and composed a song which pays tribute to those who stood up to tyranny and sacrificed their lives in the fight against oppression, and bravely liberated Greece from occupation.
Today, Greeks everywhere celebrate Greek Independence Day — the anniversary of the fateful day in 1821 when Greeks in the mainland finally said “enough is enough” to their Turkish occupiers after almost 400 years of occupation. The Greek youth of South Africa commemorates this day with pride and passion.
